Corporate Social Responsibility

Providing care is fundamental to who we are, and we are proud of the work we do to support communities both in the UK and abroad, and to engage with rehabilitation charities.

Equipment donations

Opcare partners with charities who take unwanted or used equipment from the UK and donate it to clinics in developing countries. Once there, the equipment is repurposed and prescribed to individuals who require mobility support, helping them to lead independent lives. Our primary partners are:

  • Legs4Africa is committed to improving the mobility and independence of amputees in sub-Saharan Africa through provision of rehabilitation services and access to prosthetic legs. Founded in The Gambia with the delivery of a single prosthetic leg in 2013, the charity has since provided enough components to build or repair over 5000 legs. Legs4Africa will collect any unwanted limbs or componentry from across the UK – if you have any prostheses that would otherwise go to landfill, please either contact us, or donate directly to Legs4Africa. You can rest assured they’ll go to a good home!
  • The Meththa Foundation provides rehabilitation care and services to people with disabilities in Sri Lanka, running two clinical centres which assess around a thousand people each year. The charity collects unwanted equipment – including prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices, and wheelchairs – from the UK, and ships it directly to Sri Lankan clinics where the equipment can be given to those in need. The Foundation’s motto is ‘waste not, want not’; if you would like to donate your old devices to help someone else’s future, please let us know.

Sharing knowledge

As well as donating old equipment, Opcare supports members of the team to travel to rehabilitation centres in different countries – a great opportunity to exchange knowledge and share ways of working. Most recently, some of our technicians have spent time in a prosthetic workshop in the Gambia with Legs4Africa, and one of our clinical team volunteered in Cambodia for a month.

Supporting UK communities

Collaborating with UK-based charitable organisations is very important to us. Opcare supports LimbPower, the Limbless Association, BLESMA, REACH, and other local charities through running joint events, providing sponsorship, or otherwise getting involved in different initiatives.

We also engage with local communities around our centres, such as visiting schools or hosting open days, to raise awareness of the services available.

Caring for the environment

Opcare is committed to delivering and developing services in a sustainable manner. We reduce waste wherever possible, use biodegradable packaging, recycle and re-use products, and strive continuously to minimise the environmental impact of our activities.
