Our team in Belfast had the honour of supporting our partners in the Belfast Trust in celebrating amputee and disability sport at a Sporting Highlights Day! 🏀⛳🏏 All patients that access the prosthetic service were invited to attend and participants ranged from 4 to 81 years old!
The day was kicked off by a welcome from rehabilitation consultant Dr Lorraine Graham and the key speaker was Mr David Burke. David spoke about his inspirational journey and told stories of his long distance/open water swimming adventures and how this led to becoming a record breaker.
Many of our patients in Northern Ireland have extraordinary stories to tell, and this event gave allowed them to share some of those experiences and inspire others.
The attendees had the opportunity to try out many different sports, including:
– Disability Golf (provided by Golf Ireland)
– Inclusive Cycling
– Ulster Hurling
– Wheelchair Basketball, Tennis and Badminton
– Sitting Volleyball
– Swimming
– Pilates
DISABILITY SPORT NI LTD were also in attendance to support throughout the day and many other groups attended including the Limbless Association, Inclusive Sailing and the Mae Murray Foundation. The event was a huge success and enjoyed thoroughly by all!
