Posture & Mobility

Our wheelchair services deliver comprehensive care for children and adults needing long-term postural and mobility support. We support patients from assessment through to provision and maintenance of specialised equipment, and provide ongoing clinical monitoring.

Everyone is different, and is treated on an individual basis. We take a holistic view of care, with a team of healthcare professionals looking after each patient – from specialised occupational therapists, to rehabilitation engineers, to physiotherapists. They do not only look at clinical mobility needs, but also take into account the user’s lifestyle and other medical history. Together, the team will work to ensure patients are as mobile, comfortable and independent as possible. We always aim for ‘right first time’, so that users are as comfortable as possible, as soon as possible.

The type of wheelchair prescribed to users – and how quickly they can be provided – is dependent on a number of factors, such as postural requirements, usage, and regional NHS eligibility criteria. At our services, all these considerations are explained in detail to users, so they understand their journey to a chair. Once a chair has been handed over to the patient, our services continue to monitor its effectiveness over time through clinical reviews, and maintain the equipment by providing emergency repairs 24/7.

A wide range of equipment can be prescribed to patients through the Opcare wheelchair services, including manual wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, or other specialist seating devices. Where appropriate, custom-made seats can be created, using state-of-the-art 3D scanning technology to capture the exact shape of the individual – meaning the resulting seat fits perfectly.
