Prosthetics

Our prosthetic services provide care and support for amputees and other individuals who have a limb deficiency. We prescribe and create artificial limbs, help people get used to wearing prostheses, and provide ongoing care and device maintenance throughout each user’s life to ensure their needs are continuously met. Our aim is to give the highest quality care, helping patients live life as independently as possible.

Where possible, we work as a team with a broad range of healthcare professionals, both within Opcare and the wider NHS. That means our prosthetists do not work in isolation, but with physiotherapists, nurses, counsellors and others – providing cohesive healthcare. Many of our centres have workshops onsite, where artificial limbs can be adjusted on the same day that the user brings them in.

Opcare prosthetists have access to state-of-the-art technology which enables them to give patients the best possible solutions. All our centres use 3D scanning technology to digitally capture the exact shape of an individual’s stump: a replica mould is then recreated by a robot carver, which is used to manufacture the device so that the resulting artificial limb will fit comfortably and securely. Prostheses are made up of multiple components (for example: foot, shin and knee), and prosthetists may, where appropriate, procure the most sophisticated and advanced products in the industry. Opcare’s skilled technician team can even design limbs for particular activities, such as horse-riding or tennis.
